RAINY ROBINS

It wasn’t raining too badly. There is a maple tree with tiny red flowers that grows out of a crack in the stone wall above the river. The place I go is the South Natick Dam. I can walk to it from my house.

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

It was raining again this morning. I went outside to draw anyway because I’d been away for a few days and I wanted to see what was new.

I noticed that the river was high and there was a lot of water rushing over the top of the dam. I drew a couple of pictures using colored pencils and ink.

The rushing water was loud and swirled and bubbled as it went over the dam. This is a great place to picnic and fish. I like to draw the things that I see there: ducks, geese, great blue herons, trees, sparkles, and… robins!

My not very colorful colored pencils: black, gray, brown, a conté pencil, two charcoal pencils, a small paintbrush and some india ink.

The stone wall is a good place to put down roots! The rain and cool temperatures are good for growing mosses and other plants. But I think I mentioned something about robins! Robins are my favorite bird and they are fun to watch and fun to draw. It helps to have two colors when you draw robins: red and black.

When I draw robins I like nice warm rusty reds the color of red bricks!

Here are some robins I have drawn in the past few weeks. They make me happy.
